This small hand-built ceramic vase is inspired by the striking contrast and quiet strength of Boulders Beach, Cape Town — where smooth granite formations meet the cold Atlantic, and African penguins waddle along the shoreline.
Glazed in a deep black, the vase echoes the glossy feathers of the resident penguins, with a rich, almost liquid surface that shifts subtly in the light. Tactile spikes along the form recall the rough texture of sea-worn rock , grounding the piece in coastal ruggedness. Compact yet bold, Boulders is both a tribute to nature’s resilience and a sculptural celebration of the Cape’s shoreline
